Following are the tricks that you can use to remove black hair dye:

  • Clarifying shampoo and anti-dandruff shampoos
  • Hair dye remover
  • Bleach wash
  • Full bleach

Clarifying shampoo

This is the first of the tricks that can be used for stripping the black hair dye off your hair. Replacing your regular shampoo with a clarifying shampoo is non-damaging and the first step to remove the dye. It is used prior to using any bleach. Using an effective clarifying shampoo for few weeks regularly is going to give you good results. However, after using the shampoo, you should also use a good conditioner to avoid dryness.

Apart from this, you can look for a shampoo that formulated for oily hair or product build-up. Products used for oily hair are stronger and it helps in cutting through hair products.  Keep using it daily, till you see the color fade away. However, give a break after using this shampoo prior to switching back to your regular product or shampoo.

Hair dye remover

Hair dye remover is probably the best technique that you can use and is the actual process that helps remove permanent hair dye. The oxidation of hair dye is responsible for making it permanent and it gets trapped in your hair, using a remover helps break the hair dye. It breaks the hair molecules, reverses the actual process. The color molecules are broken down and then they are easy to wash returning back the original color without damage. The only drawback is that the product may bring dryness to hair. When this product is used, then nothing more is required as it works well.

There are two separate solutions that you will need to mix, so you need to mix as per requirement. Apply it using a brush or with hands, then let it sit for 20-25 minutes and then rinse it out.

Bleach wash

A bleach wash or bleach bath is good that helps in full head bleach, however, it is diluted when you apply it to your hair. Even though you cannot lighten the hair as you desire, but it helps in lightening the hair to 1-2 levels. This can be used after using a clarifying agent.

All you need to do is mix the blech as desired and add a third of shampoo to the bleach that you have prepared. This will help the bleach penetrate deeply and help you strip off the hair dye. Remember to use the developer from 10-30 volume, the higher the volume you will be easily able to achieve a lighter color. Apply it to damp hair and then apply the product using a brush or with your hand.

Full bleach

For this, you will need to mix 1:2 ratio of bleach powder and developer. Remember to properly section your hair to apply it taking thin layers one at a time. This will allow you to completely cover your hair easily. You will find it effective as it helps you lighten your hair for up to 7-8 levels. However, remember that you will need to let it sit for about an hour to let the product work its magic on your hair.
