Foot fungus is cosmetically annoying and it is unpleasant to deal with it as it is stubborn to get rid of it. It is medically called onychomycosis, and caused due to moisture that is trapped within the nail. This can happen from prolonged wearing of shoes, unwashed socks, moisture in the environment and not keeping the toes dry. Whatever the reason is, the thing is that it is annoying and it is hard to get rid of. However, if you apply some simple home remedies, it is easy to control it and to get rid of it too.
What is a foot fungus?
It is a kind of infection that begins in nails of toes, often the toe nail is discolored and the appearance would be yellow or white. This would appear on the tip of the nail. When it develops the nail becomes thick, crumbly, brittle, change in shape and the color may even become darker. Often some may experience the nail detachment from the nail bed this condition is onychomycosis, that is uncomfortable. One thing that you need to remember is to opt for home remedies that are more effective to counter it. Another thing to note is that it is not easy to get rid of fungus, so, keep applying the remedies you will experience the fungus reducing and then finally it will disappear.
Tea Tree Essential Oil Rub
The best home remedy to counter foot fungus is Tea Tree Essential Oil as it is infused with anti-bacterial and fungicidal properties. Use it after diluting it, here is how:
- 1 teaspoon of Tea Tree oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of Olive oil
- Cotton balls
Directions to use
Mix the oils in a cup and soak a cotton ball, then apply it to the affected area, gently press it and let the oil come out. Let it air dry. Remember not to rub it in, but press it against the affected area.
Another way to do it is to soak your feet in the water and add 6-7 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil in it. Keep your feet soaked for about 15-20 minutes. Carry on with the treatment twice a day, morning and evening.
Combination therapy of Baking Soda and Vinegar Soak
Baking soda helps in arresting the growth of fungus and stops it from spreading. Another thing is that Vinegar helps in killing the infection that too without affecting the Ph and both the ingredients are natural, so no side-effects.
- 4-5 tablespoons of baking soda
- 1 cup of white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- Water enough to dip your feet in
- A small tub
- Paper towels
Directions to use
Mix a cup full vinegar in the water you are to soak your feet in. Soak your feet for 15 minutes, use paper towels to pat dry. Next remedy involves adding 5 tablespoons of baking soda in clean water and then dipping your feet for 15 minutes. Then dry them with paper towels. This should be done twice a day. Using this combination therapy will stop the spread of fungus and you will get rid of it.
The fatty acids found in Coconut oil helps in treating the fungal membrane, it penetrates in and destroys the infection.
- 5 tablespoons of Coconut oil
- Cotton Balls
Directions to use
First, you will need to wear gloves. Now using cotton balls dip these in Coconut Oil and rub it on the affected area. Do it till you cover the entire area with a thin layer of oil. This should be done 2-3 times a day.
Let it get absorbed naturally, as the Coconut Oil needs to penetrate the affected area.
- Keep your foot clean and your toenails dry.
- Trim the affected nail as much as you can.
- Do not peel off as it will worsen the situation.
- Disinfect the clipper before and after using them to prevent the fungus spread.
- Remember to rinse your feet in warm water and pat dry it.
